Balconies and fire safety
/Following a recent incident involving a disposable barbecue we would like to remind residents barbecues are a fire risk and are not permitted anywhere on the Estate.
The LFB attends an average of 16 balcony fires across London every month - mainly as a result of barbecues and the unsafe disposal of cigarettes. It has issued advice on balcony fires that you can read here. One case study is of a balcony fire caused by a discarded cigarette falling into a plant pot, igniting the peat soil and plant.
In addition to cigarettes and barbecues, careless ues of candles is another significant cause of flat fires - last month firefighters were called to a fire on the 37th floor of the neighbouring Landmark Pinnacle building which was caused by a candle.
Please ensure you play your part in keeping your home and neighbours safe. Do not store flammable items on your balcony, always discard cigarettes carefully and do not leave candles unattended. Please familiarise yourself with our fire safety advice which includes fire prevention tips and what to do in the event of a fire.
If you rent out your flat please ensure your tenants are aware of the Estate regulations, including the no-barbecue rule.
Thank you for keeping Canary Riverside safe.
