As mentioned in the Manager’s January 2021 update, electricity meters are being upgraded to meters with ‘smart’ technology. The new meters enable residents to log in to their account via an on-line portal and view and download information regarding to electricity usage.

The declaration is an important part of Canary Riverside’s application for Government funding to help cover the cost of the cladding remediation works.
Failure to return the form could detrimentally affect our eligibility for funds from the Building Safety Fund and increase the costs funded through your service charge.
A declaration must be completed by each co-owner, and for each flat owned. Please see the cladding page for an example of the declaration form. No action is required if you are the resident-owner of a single flat.
[NB working from home, eg, because of covid restrictions, does not constitute ‘business purposes’. If you run your business from your home and your flat is therefore your business premises you will need to complete a declaration].
The Regeneration Team and Planning Department at Tower Hamlets are in the process of setting up a Community Development Panel (CDP) for the Isle of Dogs and South Poplar OAPF area. The CDP is designed create more opportunity for residents to have an increased say and influence the planning and design of new development in the area.

This has resulted in the cost (excluding VAT) of electricity for residents going down from 15.451 p/kWh to 14.14 p/kWh, which will be initially seen on the electricity bills for Quarter 4 of 2020 due to be issued in January 2021.
This is a saving of approximately 8%; a similar saving has also been made for the commercial properties at Canary Riverside.

With covid dominating the news the risks associated with candles and electrical appliances at Christmas can easily be overlooked.
Candles and overloaded electrical sockets/sub-standard chargers are two of the most common causes of fires in apartment blocks: taking extra care this Christmas will help prevent potential fires.
Overloaded sockets/extension leads and dodgy chargers* can cause electrical fires. To find out how to use extension leads safely and not cause overheating use this handy ‘socket calculator’ from the electrical safety charity electrical safety first to make sure you’re not overloading your sockets.
*Please only use chargers from reputable companies, preferably the maker of your computer/phone/tablet. Unfortunately fake, cheap/sub-standard chargers are easily available from many outlets. Don’t risk it. Similarly when charging re-chargeable batteries, always use good quality batteries and chargers.
Candles should never be left unattended, and must always be placed away from flammable materials such as curtains, soft furnishings, Christmas trees and decorations. Please make sure you extinguish any candles before going to bed or on leaving your apartment, even if just popping to check your post or taking our refuse.
Similarly, Christmas tree lights should be switched off when you’re not home and before you go to bed.
Please ensure your smoke alarms are working properly and keep a spare battery to hand. More information and guides on fire safety at home can be found on the London Fire Brigade website here.

Testing of the alarms will mean at this time the lifts will automatically return to the ground floor, and fire doors in the lobby entrances will close.

Many residents encountered lift outages at the weekend which were in response to the fire alarm being activated.
We are advised by Parkgate Aspen that the fire alarm was trigged due to a sprinkler pump issue. The security team tried to reset the system but were unable to restore services, which meant lifts (and gas supplies) remained temporarily out of service. Subsequently a strong smell of gas was reported in Berkeley Tower, and the Estate Manager contacted Cadent/DMG/ADT to investigate. All services were fully restored by 9pm, and Parkgate Aspen have apologised for any inconvenience the outages caused to residents.
A loading bay booking form has been introduced to assist residents and to ensure that slots are available for deliveries and removals. This form should be completed and handed/emailed to your concierge if you are intending to use the loading bay.
